I was 23 when I had my first apartment. My Mom and I drove down to Norfolk from N.VA and spent the day looking at various properties in Ghent. I knew I wanted to live here....it was just a matter of finding the right fit. This was pre-internet and definitely pre-cell phones! So, we just drove around looking for "For Rent" signs. It was exhausting. But also exciting!! I had been socking away money for the previous year, I'd bought a used ivory couch from a co-worker, a complete set of dishes was purchased from Pier-1 Imports and the day I bought a set of silverware at Crate And Barrel was a big deal! All of these items sat in my parents basement and I used to go down there and just sit on that couch dreaming of my own space.
Since then I've moved 4 times (once out of state, hi Maryland!), I've lived with an ex-boyfriend and then my sister....and I can't wait to do it again. I've been in this space for 5 years now and I outgrew it a year ago. It's cozy, but it has so many limitations and it's now starting to grate on my nerves. But...this move will likely have to wait an additional year due to specific personal plans this coming summer.
Instead of being super depressed over the extension....I'm going to look at it as an opportunity to do a little paring down and re-decorating:) I've always been a closet interior decorator....and since I need to stay on an extra year....I'm going to make some changes this Spring. But till then....I took my camera out and documented this sunny Saturday and my cozy little nest in the sky. Tho she may be tiny, she is mighty and.....home.
