My Norfolk // The Neon District

My Norfolk // The Neon District

People are always asking me.....why do you live in Norfolk? Isn't it dangerous? Ummm....sure. Any city is going to be dangerous. Even small, country, 1 stop-light towns in rural America are going to be dangerous. It's all about knowing your town, carefully choosing where you will live and being aware of your surroundings.

I've lived in Norfolk since 1994 (except for 2 years in MD) and I honestly can't imagine living anywhere else right now. Especially during the Spring! Our city comes alive during the warmer months and it's so incredibly pretty! A photographer's dream canvas at times. So, this morning, when my cat decided that 6:30am was an appropriate time to walk all over my face and make sure I was up and at em....I ventured out to the Neon District on Granby Street and shot some images of the fantastic wall murals decorating the area. NEON stand for New Energy Of Norfolk and the area is made up of pop-up shops, galleries, food vendors and live performances. It's an artists haven and a really wonderful place.

This is part 1 of a new series I'll be highlighting on the blog....My Norfolk. I want to share the beauty of my city with everyone and dispel the rumors that it's ugly and dangerous. It's SO not:) If you are lucky enough to visit our lovely mermaid city, definitely try to work your way over to Granby Street and check out the talent and beauty that is there. You won't be disappointed!!!
