A Weekend In New Bern

A Weekend In New Bern

One of the nice things about my parents living in North Carolina is that they are only about 3 hours away. Far enough that going to visit is like a mini-break of sorts. Not too close, not too far. As the 3 bears would say....juuuuust right!

When they first moved to New Bern, my sister and I were wondering what on earth made them move to the country?! Before that they lived in Annapolis, MD and if you've ever been there, you know that it's crazy congested and only 45 minutes from D.C. Yet, the closer we got to their new town, the more more realized why they decided to retire here.

It's the perfect small town that pretty much gives you everything you could need. It's on the water, has a thriving downtown district, there's plenty to do, good shopping, a historic district and only about 30 minutes from the famed, North Carolina beaches! It's been about 8 years since they relocated here and each time I visit I think "I could totally live here."

About 2 weeks ago, my Mom invited Katie and I to come enjoy the Historic Homes & Garden Tour with her! It was a great day with so many beautiful homes and gardens to see. For me, the highlight of the tour was my first viewing of Tryon Palace and the grounds. So beautiful! If you are ever in New Bern, please try to take an hour or two and walk through the gardens...you won't regret it! Till then though, enjoy these shots from that perfect, Carolina blue skies day......
