So yeah...heat. Yuck. But what ya gonna do about it? Make delicious smoothies that's what!!! I've been on a huge smoothie kick this year and don't see it ending anytime soon. They're a great way to get your fruits and vegetables into your diet if you have trouble (ahem...like me) on a daily basis remembering to grab that apple or steam that broccoli. I use both fresh and frozen berries for my smoothies. I like them to be icy and when I add ice cubes to get that effect, I feel that the drink gets watered down a bit. So I'll either freeze the fresh fruit or grab a bag of pre-frozen. Either way, I'm getting my fruit on and cooling down in the process. Win, win:)
So, if you are looking for a sweet and healthy way to stay cool....definitely bring the blender out of the cobwebs and get to smoothie-ing people! See the recipe at the end:)
P.S.... my kitchen assistant is getting very hands-on lately. Wants to be alllll up in the process so I thought I'd start sharing the occasional behind the scenes outtake:)
Raspberry Almond Vanilla Smoothie:
2 cups Almond Milk
1 scoop vanilla whey protein
1.5 cups fresh raspberries (frozen if you want that icy consistency)
2 tbsp honey (I used orange clover honey, it has a nice flavor to it!)
1 tsp chia seeds
Blend all the above ingredients in your blender. Add an ice cube if you wish. There's no real science to making smoothies...sometimes I just kinda pour and scoop...not really measuring. Pour into your favorite mug or glass, top with some extra chia seeds and prepare to cool off:)
